DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, May 19th\, we will have a local publisher\, Gordon Stacy Harmon\, running demonstrations of his title\, Fours.  Fours is related to backgammon and based on the 2\,000 year old The Royal Game of Ur.  While it is inspired by that game\, Fours creates a modern rules set that combines a little bit of luck and strategy together for an engaging battle of wits. \nMr. Harmon will be on hand throughout this spotlight to teach his game\, talk about it and maybe even face off against you!  Hope you’ll come check this out on the 19th!  If you can’t make it then\, don’t fret – we have a copy of this two player title in the Game Point Library as well – on the Local Publisher shelf! \nMore from the publisher: \nLike the original game\, Fours is a race to move checkers through a course. Opponents can knock each other off the course\, but there are ‘safe’ spaces. The ‘fours’ theme is evident throughout the game – dice yield a result of 1\, 2\, 3\, or 4. Safe spaces occur every 4 spaces. Each player has four checkers to run through the course. A roll of 4 allows a player an extra roll. \nOne of the most unique design elements of the game is the portability. The game ‘board’ is actually a fabric game mat with a rubberized backing. This allows it to conveniently fold and pack into a small pouch easily carried in a purse\, backpack\, or briefcase. Unlike modern recreations of the game\, a large\, bulky wooden board is not required.

Players develop their nation using a unique bidding/price-setting mechanism to purchase new cards\, but what is paid to the supply might also be harvested into the pockets of other players later\, which puts a twist on your strategy of bidding cards\, and also simulates economic inflation in the game. DESCRIPTION:If you are like us and are going through serious Winter Olympics withdraw – this event is for you.  Bring out a team of players to compete in the first Game Point Board Game Olympiad!  A team of four players will represent their “country” in a variety of game events. \nThe events will include three rounds.  In each round\, one of your team members must compete in one of that round’s games.  Doing well in your event will earn points for your team and the most decorated team will be crowned our victor and receive Game Point gift card prizes! \nRound One: Modern Strategy – Four modern classics occupy this round.  Games will include Catan\, Ticket to Ride\, Splendor and Caracassonne. \nRound Two: The Dice Hate Me – This round will require you to apply strategy to random results.  Games will include Can’t Stop\, Las Vegas\, King of Tokyo\, and Qwixx. \nRound Three: Lighter Fare – Quick family games take on a different feel with pride on the line.  Games will include Chicken Cha Cha Cha\, Rhino Hero Super Battle\, Don’t Break the Ice\, and Doctor Microbe. \nWe can’t promise victory and glory but we can promise an evening of laughter and fun!  We will teach games\, if needed\, or stop by during the month and get in some training. DESCRIPTION:A local Envoy Herald will be on hand doing demos of the Geiger Expansion to Compounded.  Dice Hate Me Games\, the publisher of Compounded\, describes the base game as \n. . .a game about building chemical compounds through careful management of elements\, a fair bit of social play and trading\, and just a bit of luck. In Compounded\, players take on the roles of lab managers\, hastily competing to complete the most compounds before they are finished by others – or destroyed in an explosion. Some compounds are flammable and will grow more and more volatile over time; take too long to gather the necessary elements for those compounds and a lot of hard work will soon be scattered across the lab. \nGeiger adds a new interactive element to this as players work together to contain radioactivity of their chemical creations.  Demos of the game will be available starting at 5 pm and can accomodate one to five chemists.  Come check it out! \n
